Speaker biography: Ashley Gunter

Ashley Gunter is a PhD student in his final year of study at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, doing research focusing on issues in urban development, with a more specific concentration on local economic development (LED) and housing. His research focus leans towards three key topics in the general urban landscape - LED as a tool for urban development, property tenure and its contribution to LED, and geo-informatics methodologies in mapping squatter settlements. His preferred GIS is the open source GIS ILWIS and he is an active advocate for open source GIS.
