Speaker biography: Kecia Rust

Kecia Rust is the coordinator of the FinMark Trust's housing finance theme area, and has established the Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa (CAHF), as a division of the FinMark Trust. She has 18 years of experience in South Africa's housing finance sector, from her role as a member of the National Housing Forum secretariat in the early '90's in South Africa, through to various consulting assignments in South and southern Africa, and now her current work promoting access to affordable housing finance through the CAHF. Kecia has undertaken and commissioned research into a wide range of topics including housing and property markets, finance access and affordability, housing subsidies, micro finance and incremental housing processes, rental and social housing, and the creation of sustainable human settlements. She holds a Master of Management degree (1998), earned from the Graduate School of Public and Development Management, University of the Witwatersrand. In 2007, she participated in the International Housing Finance Programme at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She obtained her Bachelors Degree with Distinction and Honours in International Studies (1990), from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, where she was a Morehead Scholar.
