Speaker biography: Thomas Shaw

Thomas Shaw is a post-graduate student in the process of obtaining an MSc in Urban Development Planning at the Development Planning Unit, University College London. He recently completed his dissertation on the integration of multiple layers of land ownership, property titles and rights of the Ashanti people in Ghana. Earlier this year he spent three weeks in Turkey assessing the social impacts of the government's drive to transform Istanbul into a 'global city'. Thomas completed his undergraduate degree in Town and Country Planning at the University of Manchester and has worked for Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council on a wide range of planning issues including regeneration, policy and development control. He hopes to pursue a career in the field of urban land planning in developing countries and has a specific interest in land tenure and property rights.
