Speaker biography: Guo Li

Dr Guo Li, a Chinese national, is a Senior Agriculture Economist of the World Bank, based in Pretoria. Before working on the Bank's Africa Region from December 2008, Guo Li had worked on the Bank's East Asia Region for eight years, focusing on rural development and poverty reduction in China and Mongolia, land titling and administration in Southeast Asian countries (Indonesia, Philippines, Laos and Cambodia), and land policy dialogues in China and Indonesia. Dr. Guo Li served as the co-chair of the World Bank's Land Thematic Group from 2007 to 2009. Dr Li now is leading a technical assistance project on rural development and land reform in South Africa and a land policy dialogue in Mozambique. Dr. Guo Li holds a Ph.D. in applied economics from Stanford University and has published in the American Economic Reviews and the Journal of Comparative Economics. In 2003, Dr. Li received a "Quality of Research Discovery Award" from the American Agricultural Economics Association.
