2012 Urban LandMark Conference

Speaker biography: Margot Rubin

Since 2002, Margot Rubin has been working as a researcher, and policy and development consultant focusing on housing and urban development issues, and has contributed to a number of research reports on behalf of the national Department of Housing, the Johannesburg Development Agency, SRK Engineering, World Bank, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality and Urban LandMark.

From 2006 to 2009, Margot was a researcher and Research Manager at the Centre for Urban and Built Environment Studies (CUBES) at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. Prior to that she was with the Social Housing Foundation from August 2004 to December 2005, as a researcher and Research Dissemination Officer. From February 2004 to August 2004, Margot was a researcher at the Centre for Development and Enterprise, and between January 2003 and January 2004 she was Assistant Director: Research Chief Directorate at the national Department of Housing.

Margot is currently registered for a PhD in Urban Planning and Politics at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. She holds a Masters in Urban Geography, an Honours degree in Geography and Environmental Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Philosophy.
