Developing Integrated Towns

2008

This report by Felicity Kitchin and Wendy Ovens describes an investigation of several towns, and the municipalities in which they are located, to assess the extent to which their current land use policies and practices enable municipalities to provide the poor with access to well located land in a sustainable manner, in an effort to integrate them effectively into the daily workings of the town.

The six towns selected as case studies are Pietermaritzburg/Msunduzi, Rustenburg, Sasolburg/Metsimaholo, Lusikisiki/Ingquza Hill, Ulundi and Dullstroom/Emakhazeni.
